Winners of the 62nd Annual Excellence in Journalism Awards Virtual Edition
On Oct. 15, The Press Club of New Orleans hosted its 62nd Annual Excellence in Journalism Awards online via YouTube. The two-hour program was live-streamed from the J. Michael Early Studio at the Loyola University New Orleans School of Communication and Design and produced by Loyola student journalists.
PCNO Board Members Doug Mouton and Fletcher Mackel hosted the show, bringing their enthusiasm and jocularity to the newsdesk. The hosts and format provided a sports talk show-style flavor that proved entertaining and had viewers getting in on the fun with their own banter and jokes in the YouTube live chat. Club president Melanie Warner Spencer was remoted into the show via Skype to deliver the president’s remarks and introduce pre-recorded messages from the PCNO annual scholarship recipients.
“Thank you to PCNO members and their guests for joining us for this unprecedented edition of the annual awards program,” said PCNO president Melanie Warner Spencer after the show. “I am so proud of the board for putting together such a good virtual show. It was truly flawless and we couldn’t have done it without the Loyola Journalism students. Well done, indeed! We had more than 500 entries this year, from more outlets than ever before, so the competition was tight. Anyone who made it in as a finalist deserves hearty praise on their accomplishments. Congratulations to them and all of our members for their incredible work. We can’t wait to see what you’ve been working on this year during the 2021 awards!”
