2021 Excellence in Journalism Awards Moving to Virtual Format

2021 Excellence in Journalism Awards Moving to Virtual Format

New Date Will Be Announced Soon

Dear Members,

As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to affect our community, with cases of the Delta variant steadily on the rise, the Board of Directors of the Press Club of New Orleans has decided to forego this year’s in-person awards gala. As members of the Fourth Estate, we are essentially public servants, and as such we are committed to doing our part to help mitigate the spread of the coronavirus and helping to keep our community and all our families safe.

As we move forward, here is some information you should know regarding what comes next:

Your Ticket Purchase.
This year’s awards gala, like every other, is a highlight for our industry that always garners a great deal of support and excitement not only from our members but also from our local businesses and avid supporters of local media. We truly appreciate all the support! Anyone who purchased tickets via Eventbrite will be automatically refunded. Anyone who has sent a check will have it returned.

Your Higgins Hotel Booking.
If you have booked a stay at the Higgins Hotel & Conference Center New Orleans through the “Take the Elevator Home” special rate and would still like to keep your stay, the hotel has offered to honor the discounted rate. Rosie’s on the Roof will still be open to the public.

Your 2021 Awards.
In lieu of an in-person event, the Press Club of New Orleans will once again host its awards show virtually in September 2021. More details, including an exact date, will be forthcoming as we work to make the necessary arrangements. This year’s Lifetime Achievement honorees, Nancy Parker and Walt Handelsman, will be carried over into 2022 so that we can properly celebrate them. We look forward to seeing you all this fall for the 2021 virtual awards and at dinner in 2022!

Be well!

Sincerely,

David T. Baker
President
Press Club of New Orleans
